During your stay at the Hotel Petrohue,
you can enjoy your choice of kayaking, rafting, canyoning, climbing, trekking or an eco-adventure for your private, half-day excursion by Expediciones Petrohué.
Kayaking
Everything starts at the expedition
center, where we will take our kayaks and safety gear and head
to Petrohué Beach. The adventure begins after a short
safety briefing. We will paddle to Playa Larga, one of the lake's
most beautiful beaches, noted for its fine black sand. Then, we
will continue on to small beaches only accessible by water for
a refreshing swim. The trip takes us across to the southern shore
to enjoy its spectacular views of the Osorno Volcano and its surroundings.
Finishing the lake crossing, we will paddle the emerald waters
under the cliffside. Here, we can observe bird species characteristic
to the park in the thick forest that meets the water. Nearby,
there are small beaches ideal for a picnic. After a well-deserved
box lunch we will paddle to the source of the Petrohué
River and the end of our adventure.

Rafting
In the morning, we will meet up 9 km.
from Petrohué at the rafting put-in. After distributing
equipment and having a safety talk, we will begin our descent
of the class III and IV (depending on the month) rapids of the
Petrohué River.
The 16 km. ride over crystal-clear waters
boasts adrenaline-filled rapids and panoramic views of virgin
forest, mountains and snow-capped volcanoes. Nearby, we can observe
the diverse bird species which inhabit the river surroundings,
such as the Kingfisher, Pato Correntino and Yeco/Cormoran, among
others.
This adventurous paddle will last approximately
1-1/2 hours until we reach the confluence of River Hueño Hueño,

Canyoning
This adventure starts at the expedition
center, where we will go through a general briefing and organize
the necessary equipment. We then board a boat that will take
us for a 15-minute ride to the mouth of River León. We
begin with a saftey check of our equipment and a technical safety
talk on the beach. Then, we'll embark on our ascent through the
crystal clear waters of this steep and exciting canyon. Our goal
is to reach the "Pozon" an enormous pool fed by a stunning
40-meter waterfall.
To reach our goal, we will negotiate
various obstacles: climbing waterfalls, jumping into pools and
swimming against the current. The backdrop of our adventure is
a spectacular natural setting with beautiful native fauna and
flora typical to the Valdivian Forest.
If the ascent was exciting, the descent
is even more adventurous. You will be jumping into river pools,
rappelling across a waterfall and floating down river to the
mouth of the León River. Here, we will relax and enjoy
a well-deserved picnic lunch before we head back on the boat
to Petrohué.

Climbing
This activity begins at the expedition
center in Petrohué where we will select our climbing gear
and other necessary equipment for the adventure.
Approximately 4 km. from Petrohué
there is a natural climbing wall of basalt rock situated right
next to the Petrohué River. The wall offers many sport
climbing routes with different levels of difficulty. After your
introduction to the wall, the technical equipment and safety
climbing instructions, our goal is to try the various routes
on the wall.

The Colonists' Eco-Trek
In the afternoon, we begin our journey
by vehicle to the Petrohué Falls. Here, we can observe nature
at work, water eroding volcanic rocks using the explosive power
that formed these waterfalls. In the midst of this typical southern
forest environment, we can observe a large number of native tree
and plant species.
After visiting the falls, we will head
to the skirts of the Osorno Volcano (altitude of 2,661 meters). We will hike at a relaxed pace through the dense forest via the
faint path to Petrohué once used by the first settlers.
The forest is home to coigüe, ulmo, arrayán, avellano
(hazelnut), tiaca, ferns and mosses. In the middle of the forest,
we will have a picnic and look for native bird species such as
the chucao, great horned owl, woodpecker and traro. After this
short break, we begin our descent of the foothills of the Osorno Volcano through black sandy terrain created by the Eastern Glacier. Our
excursion ends at the Hotel Petrohué.
Eco-adventure
The eco-adventure offers the perfect
mix of contact with nature and the adrenaline of adventure.
We begin with a trek through a forest which has survived the
last eruptions of the Osorno Volcano. Along the way, we will stop
for scenic views of the source of the Petrohué River and
Lake Todos los Santos. The trek continues through native forest,
home to diverse species including coigües, ulmos, and avellanos, among others.
At Fox Canyon, we meet our first extreme
challenge. We will cross the canyon using a zip-line that extends
approximately 330 feet, or 100 meters, moving through the tree
tops to the other side. This is an experience you will never
forget! Afterward, we will recuperate our energy alongside a
lava flow that teaches about the stages of a volcanic eruption.
After a short rest, we will climb the
eastern wall of the canyon and hike through a landscape abundant
with native bird life. We will then brief you on safetly and
the use of equipment before rapelling down a canyon surrounded
by moss-covered vines toward the Petrohué River. A short
walk takes us to our last challenge: kayaks. After paddling upriver
to Petrohué Beach, we we will enjoy refreshments
and snacks on the beach while sharing our vivid impressions of
the day.
